Summer 1996, I made a tape for myself that was just this song over and over again. This band was easily as good as any of the other HeartattaCk darlings of the time. This song appeared on the American Tragedy Judi Bari 7” compilation along with Dead Silence, Three Studies for a Crucifixion, and Still Life (a band whose popularity I never understood).
Also, everyone in this band is a dear friend, so maybe I’m biased.
Ryan Schneider - vocals; Austin Considine - guitar; Mike Anderson - guitar; Chris Saligoe - bass; Rob Smith - drums
In addition to spoofing the Enjoy Coca-Cola icon, it says Beba Chimarrão, which means “drink yerba mate” in Portuguese. I lived in southern Brazil as a kid, and my parents still go there a lot and get me weird souvenirs like this.
The last time I had yerba mate was the morning before a flight to Amsterdam, I think it kept me awake for about 24 hours straight. I don’t really react well to stimulants, and I guess yerba mate counts. I remember sitting there on the plane thinking “I could not relax if my life depended on it.” I played a lot of Drop7, a cool shape game for the iPhone.
